No Scaled Drawings, No Problem! Kind of…
It’s bound to happen, a customer asks you to do a site survey but they don’t have scaled drawings for you to use in Ekahau or your survey software. What do you do? Sure you could track down drawings from facilities because chances are it’s just your IT contact that doesn’t have them or you could go to the city and see if you can copies of the plans that were submitted when acquiring a building permit but if the site is simple enough there’s a fairly easy way to create your own drawings. The Bosch GLM100C laser distance finder has a Bluetooth chip built-in allowing you to connect to your iPad running the measureOn app from Bosch. Obviously you are not going to do complex sites with this but if you have a fairly simple site this is a quick and easy way to get some plans created. We put together a quick video showcasing how to use the app and GLM100C to create a simple plan for a hotel room. But first some setup screenshots.
From the project home screen you would select Quick sketch to quickly create a floor plan that can be scaled and then exported out to PDF for import into Ekahau or other applications.

Nice display of room measurement with the Bosch laser measure. A slightly more sophisticated method is to use a Leica Disto laser measurer with Orthograph 1 software. ( Orthograph.net )
Certainly nice but also double the cost. Looks like Orthograph also supports the Bosch one.
