How To Use Ekahau Site Survey For Passive Survey
This is my first run through with the Ekahau Site Survey application. I don’t know how to do a few of the things with it that I can do with the AirMagnet Survey Pro application, but I’m sure they can be done – I just need to figure out how.

Hy Jennifer,
I just watched this video and the corresponding AirMagnet one. First of all, thanks for sharing your knowledge and even more for doing it by means of videos: great!
AFAIU, a passive survey is being done without any association of the wireless client (laptop) to any SSID, right? If this is true, why was your device during the Ekahau survey pinging an IP during the whole survey?
I’m curious about that, because I actually never did a passive survey and would love to learn how to do it “the right way”.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Flavio.
The Ekahau survey software has the ability to do a continuous ping while you’re doing a survey. True, you’d have to associate to an SSID, get an IP address and be authenticated before this feature would be useable, but it’s good to know you can do that if you need to.
I describe a passive surve as simply documenting the SSIDs detected, along with their SNR and RSSI. Does this help?
